Senior Credit Controller 



To supervise, direct and motivate a team of two credit controllers who are controlling ledgers with a value in excess of £3.25M

Direct responsibility for the debt collection on a ledger of around 500 live accounts with an outstanding debt of around £600K. Particular responsibility to be paid to cash sale accounts.

To agree with the financial director targets on all ledgers for outstanding debts (DSO) and to then devise strategies to achieve them.

Liasing with branch managers and salesman on problem accounts

Vetting of new account applications.

Liasing with debt collection agencies on delinquent accounts. Recommending when an account should be placed for legal collection. Follow through to conclusion.


To reduce the DSO on all ledgers by at least 5% by July 2002 with a further 7.5% reduction by July 2003.

To ensure that all problem accounts are recognised before the issue becomes critical and that prompt action is taken to reduce the company’s potential exposure.

To ensure that bad debt write offs do not exceed 0.5% of turnover in any one year.

Candidate Profile 

Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of debt collection techniques. A basic understanding of the law under pinning debt collection would be useful.

Previous experience of staff management and motivation would be preferable.

A clear and analytical attitude is essential as is the ability to work accurately and under pressure. Above all candidates will need to adopt a very structured approach to their work and must be able to prioritise their duties


This will be by reference to the qualities and experience of the individual candidate but will include both a basic salary as well as a results driven bonus scheme.
